Family Fun Day - Sat 23rd September 2006

On 23rd September, South Wales and South West DELTA held their 3rd BBQ and Fun day at Beechenhurst events area in the Forest of Dean. Many thanks once again to Fiona Mulhall of www.ontracks.co.uk for sponsoring us.

This was the first time in September, everyone came prepared for rain, including us with 2 gazebos on loan from Grosmont Community Group (GADMAG), the latter had to be used for shade – it was a glorious day. 14 families attended from Pontypridd to Cheltenham and from Bristol to Ledbury. At least 12 more apologised for not being able to come.

Toys were supplied by Judith Morris and Richard and Jayne Coleman. Excellent local burgers, sausages and chicken with home grown salad, together with rolls (mainly donated by GADMAG). Meringues with cream and strawberries mainly supplied by M&S vouchers, together with some raffle prizes.

The raffle raised £40, thanks to Chris. Gardiner-Medwin for selling them and for sharing his life experiences of deafness with the families.

Three families were new to DELTA, a fourth came for the first time. It was wonderful to see the parents chatting together and the children had so much fun we didn’t get round to the organised games. As one mum said, ‘The time has gone so quickly!’

We also had a visit from the local Rep. for Hearing Dogs who was able to answer some families’ questions.

Sales of craft items by Rhiannon Ellis - Davies, Pats ‘Guess the pasta in the jar’, apple sales and donations made £18. Face painting by Megan raised £12 and my jams raised £28. Together with the ticket money we raised £235:73p.

I think I can honestly say, a great time, albeit tiring, was had by all.
Beechenhurst 2007 to be arranged.
