I have been a trustee of DELTA for the past 7 years starting off as treasurer, then Chair and now back to treasurer.
My involvement with DELTA started at Warwick Summer School in 1996 as a parent of Jenny Adderley. Jenny (now 12) is profoundly deaf and the proud wearer of Hearing Aids. I returned with my wife Wendy, the following year in Bolton as a volunteer and have been helping ever since. I firmly believe in putting something back into the charity that told us that our deaf child could learn to listen and talk.
Those of you who have been to Lancaster Summer will see that I am deeply involved with the Young DELTA group, this is a group of hearing and deaf adults, aged between 18 to 30, (not to be confused with that other 18 - 30 group). This is the group that Wendy and I aspire that both Jenny and our eldest daughter, Sarah, will be part of.
Wendy has been an employee of DELTA for nearly 8 years under a number of guises and is currently the Parenting Fund Coordinator. Our whole family is often called upon to help out in crèches, supervise trips and generally help out at the information days and weekends that she organises across the country.
In the past I have raised money for DELTA by running 2 Great North Runs (on different years), the Edinburgh Marathon, the DELTA Bike Ride and organising fund-raising gigs with my band 'The Spangles'.
When I'm not involved in DELTA activities I manage to squeeze in being a primary school teacher!! and also to watch my local side ,Tranmere Rovers win!
