Guide to payroll Giving

For Employees

As a supporter of DELTA, you will know how hard we work to plan ahead in order to make best use of your donations. Through Payroll Giving, you can provide a regular, reliable income stream that allows us to budget, while benefiting you with generous tax relief.

How does it work?

Give to DELTA from your pay and you can get immediate tax relief. The donations are taken from your gross salary, reducing the amount of income tax that is deducted from your salary. For a basic rate taxpayer wanting to give a £10 donation, it will cost £7.80, or for a higher rate taxpayer just £6. Furthermore, many employers encourage the scheme by matching employees’ donations.

What do you need to do?

All you need to do is ask your payroll department to deduct regular charitable donations from your salary by filling out a simple application form, stating how much you would like to give and to which charities. Your donations will show on your payslip.

If your employer does not already have a Payroll Giving scheme in place, it’s quick and easy to set up and if your organisation has fewer than 500 employees it may be eligible for a grant of up to £500 just for signing up. The employer can chose to keep this grant or donate it to charity.

Employers simply sign a contract with a Payroll Giving Agency who will transmit donations on their behalf.

For Employers

Payroll Giving is a great way for you to demonstrate commitment to the good causes that your employees care about. Quick and easy to set-up and administer, it can also aid retention and recruitment of staff, and enable you to generate a vital income stream to charities.

Grant’s available

Employers with less than 500 staff will be rewarded with a grant of up to £500 just for setting up Payroll Giving before December 2006, and the first £10 of your employees’ gifts will be matched during the first six months of their donations.

Simple Process

For your employees, Payroll Giving is an easy way to give to their favourite charities, benefiting them with immediate tax relief. All they need to do is fill out an application form, stating how much they would like to give and to which charities. The system is easy to opt in and out of, giving donors control over their giving. From a charity’s perspective, payroll donations provide a vital and reliable income stream, allowing them to plan ahead and budget for the future.
